3YOURMIND Expands Machine Connectivity With Ultimaker

AM Webinar Session #2.1

Video Brian Crotty | April 7, 2020 | 1 min read

At formnext 2019, 3YOURMIND displayed running machine connectivity with ultimaker machines. Over the past years ultimaker has been an increasingly interesting player for producing jigs, tooling and assembly aids. Brian Crotty, Marketing Manager at 3YOURMIND will show how simple the connectivity is to configure, the types of information that can be received from the machines and what direct advantages that transparency provides to distributed production.

I'm going to talk a little bit about why we chose to do the Ultimaker connection in this first place and also what it means for tracking, where AM is today and why we chose to work with Ultimaker, which is actually usually considered as a prosumer machine, but what it means for us, finding the real use cases and the total output that I would like to share with you is what we can do to leverage Machine Connectivity to get more value out of Additive Manufacturing. So why did we start working on machine connectivity in the first place?

So actually 3YOURMIND was kind of ahead of the game. With looking at machine connectivity until 2018 we were only really concentrating on connecting parts to suppliers, this is the order management piece. And we did that because that was where we saw the biggest need, especially in larger organizations. It was very difficult to get access to prototyping machines, prototyping apartments. It was difficult to validate which parts should go, how much they should cost and that's what we started with. What we saw coming in 2018 and in particular in 2019 is that 3D printing is hitting Serial numbers.
